What is Diosgenin Powder?
Diosgenin Powder is derived from the rhizomes of monocotyledonous entwined vines of the Dioscoreaceae family, such as yam, turmeric, yellow medicine, and pangolin. In plants, diosgenin is combined with glucose and rhamnose to form dioscin (Dioscin). During extraction and separation, diosgenin is generally hydrolyzed into diosgenin and monosaccharide (glucose, rhamnose) with dilute acid first. Because diosgenin is insoluble in water and mixed in plant residues, organic solvents (such as petroleum ether) can be used to directly extract diosgenin from plant residues.
